Ecu-Health Care
What is Ecu-Health Care?
We are a private non-profit health care access program located in room 208
of the Doctor's Building on the campus of North Adams Regional Hospital.
Our mission is to help the uninsured and underinsured residents of North
Berkshire access affordable health care.
The first component of Ecu-Health Care is helping area residents enroll in
all public and private health coverage programs. In Massachusetts this
includes: Commonwealth Care, MassHealth, The Children's Medical Security
Plan, Medicare Part-D, Prescription Advantage for seniors and the disabled,
the Medical Security Plan for the unemployed, Medicare premium assistance,
free breast and cervical cancer screenings, reduced fee dental care, and all
prescription assistance programs.
If residents aren't eligible for a public health program, we also have a
voluntary physician program where area physicians provide treatment to area
residents, who fall within income guidelines, at a significantly reduced fee.
Ecu-Health Care also provides financial counseling services for North Adams
Regional Hospital, to insure that patients are both aware of, and enroll in
all available public health programs.
It is important to know that in Massachusetts significant health reform was
implemented in October 2006. This now enables thousands of North Berkshire
residents to enroll in new health benefit programs. There is also the health
insurance mandate whereby all massachusetts residents age 18 and over are
now required to have health insurance (see our health insurance mandate
page).
